Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier believes that the current
Paris Saint-Germain side would win the English Premier League.
PSG hold a 2-1 lead going into the second leg of their Champions
League round-of-16 tie against English champions Chelsea at Stamford
Bridge on Wednesday.
As part of their preview content for that match, Le Parisien asked
several people who know English football well about how the French
champions would fare if they had to play in the Premier League.
Houllier, who also managed PSG and Aston Villa, was one of the people
who felt the French champions would be good enough to win it.
"Yes," he told Le Parisien. "Because PSG have everything -- speed, talent and above all a great squad.
"Talent can make you win matches but only a collective allows you to
win a league. If PSG were English, they would adapt without any problems
to the local rhythm and intensity.
"Would Thiago Silva, David Luiz or Marquinhos be afraid in the
Premier League? Certainly not. They're really great players who are
capable of playing anywhere.
"The quality is there and it always makes the difference -- whether that's in France or in England."
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp said there would be "no
doubt" that PSG would win the Premier League title once they had taken a
little time to become accustomed to a more physical league.
That view was shared by former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf but
ex-Arsenal pair Robert Pires and Ian Wright were more doubtful.
"Certainly their squad is deep and rich but you can't compare Ligue 1 to the Premier League," Pires said.
"Every Saturday there are huge physical battles, and that's something
that PSG don't engage in every week -- far from it -- because the
opposition [in France] is not very strong."
Wright feels that the current PSG team would finish in the top four
but does not think they would lift the trophy at the end of a full
season.
"To win the Premier League, you have to be at 100 percent every weekend," the ex-Gunners striker told Le Parisien.
"Here there are no easy matches where you win even if you're at 50
percent of your potential. If one day you're not as good, you'll get
beaten at Bournemouth, Stoke or Watford."
