FILIPE LUIS MATCH BAN REDUCED TO 1 AFTER APPEAL WAS WON BY ATLETICO MADRID

Atletico Madrid won their appeal on Thursday and Filipe Luis' three-match ban for his lunge into Barcelona's Lionel Messi during the 2-1 defeat to Barcelona last weekend was reduced to one match by the Spanish Federation's appeals committee.
Atletico Madrid had appealed the sanction with Enrique Cerezo saying that it was unduly harsh compared to similar incidents in La Liga.
The appeals committee said in a statement that the referee report "did not explain exactly why the clash was so dangerous."
The Brazil international was shown a straight red card for the challenge, which caught Messi on the knee just before half-time.
The initial report from the competition committee said Filipe Luis had been given a three-game ban because of the "special seriousness of the action."
