RENNES ON VERGE OF ODEGAARD CAPTURE FRO REAL MADRID

Martin Odegaard made the match-day roster in Real Madrid's recent home win over Almeria.

Rennes manager Christian Gourcuff is hopeful that his club can complete the loan signing of Real Madrid's Martin Odegaard for the upcoming Ligue 1 season.
Odegaard, 17, is being allowed to leave the European champions this month in order to help aid the attacking midfielder's development.
"Considering his [career] path, he can have an immediate technical input," Gourcuff told L'Equipe.
"Circumstances are allowing us to reach a player of this level who would normally be inaccessible.
"The three parties should have an interest in it. Real want the player to develop, the player doesn't want to end up just anywhere and for us it's an opportunity to be seized."
With Real's reserve side Castilla having failed to get promoted to the Spanish second division last season, the club are keen for Odegaard to earn playing time elsewhere. The Norway international has been linked with a switch to the Premier League and the Bundesliga but Real manager Zinedine Zidane's influence will see him move to Ligue 1 instead.
L'Equipe points out that Zidane spent time at Rennes in November 2014 while working through his coaching badges and he also observed Gourcuff's methods when the new Rennes boss was still working at Lorient.
