ITS AWESOME SURPASSING RONALDO DE LIMA BARCELONA RECORD SAYS SUAREZ
Uruguay striker Luis Suarez says he is honoured to have now scored more goals in one season for Barcelona than Brazil legend Ronaldo ever managed.
Suarez's four-goal haul in Barca's 8-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday helped his team regain momentum in the Primera Division title race, while it also brought the Uruguay international to 49 goals in 48 games for the club in all competitions this term.
This took Suarez past the 47 goals in 49 games which Ronaldo managed when he spent the 1996-97 season at the Camp Nou, and the former Liverpool player told reporters he was proud to have bettered one of the "footballing greats."
"It is a privilege and an honour to outscore Ronaldo because of what that means and what a great player he was," Suarez said. "I enjoy spending every day in the best team in the world, and it is an honour to have surpassed one of the footballing greats."
Lionel Messi is currently on 40 goals in all competitions for Barca so far this season, meaning that Suarez is likely to become the first player at the club since Samuel Eto'o in 2007-08 to outscore the Argentine over a single campaign. However, Suarez said that bettering the Barca and La Liga all-time record scorer over one year is not of importance to him.
"It is of course impossible to beat Messi's records," he said.
Suarez has 31 league goals this term, putting him one behind Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently leads both the Primera Division Pichichi and European Golden Shoe top-scoring charts.
