Brazilian
midfielder Fernandinho has fired a stench warning to premier title contender like league leaders Leicester city,Arsenal and Tottenham hotspur that to look down on Manchester city title challenge is at their peril.
When asked if the citizens should be be written off in this season's title race, the midfield anchorman said : "I think this would be a big mistake. We have great
players and a great manager and we're going to put our efforts into the
games we have left to play.
"We want to start now with the next
game against Norwich and then on the derby. After that we will see what
happens. We want to gain more confidence and when players return from
injury they will make our squad even stronger.
"This season we
have been a little more inconsistent. We have dropped some important
points at home and this has made the difference to keep us off the top
of the table. But there are still two months to go and 10 games to play
and with our best form maybe we can be back at the top of the table
soon.
"The team is one of the best in the league. We have a great
squad with great players but we have to prove that on the pitch.
Unfortunately we haven't done that up to now. I hope the next two months
-- the last 10 games -- we can prove that on the pitch and not just
talking."
But Leicester are not used to life at the top -- having
been rock-bottom at exactly the same stage last season -- and
Fernandinho says City must put them under as much pressure as they can
in the final weeks of the campaign.
He added: "They are in good
shape, they are in good form. They have been one of the most consistent
teams in the league. They are playing very well and if they win the
league they will deserve it because they will have shown the best
qualities.
"But from now until the end of the season things can
change, even the team who will be top of the table. If they can continue
being the favourite team then it will be great for them but if
something changes and Manchester City get to the top of the table then
it will be great for us.
"To play as the favourites is a lot of
pressure because it is not easy to be top of the table and to win all
those games. The Premier League is so difficult to win in every game we
play. This can be an advantage for us but our target is to keep playing,
to get better and to try to do our best."
